What the 90s R&B revival is sorely missing is some sensitive well-dressed dudes like Boyz II Men, or K-Ci and JoJo. Mystery producer ANGOLA goes halfway in his re-approriated use of K-Ci and JoJo’s fucking beautiful 1999 hit ‘Tell Me It’s Real’. But before we all turn into wet drips hit play on this jam from ANGOLA who turns the sample inside-out and pits it against a rhythm heavy backing of pitched drums and garage-y snares. My feet can’t decide whether I’m in 2011, 1999 or 2001 and I like it.
P.S The excellent No Modest Bear mentioned that of course Wise Blood sampled the same song on his 7” for Transparent last year. Those K-Ci and JoJo boys certainly have a set of lungs worth sampling.
